Coveted by florists, these brightly colored flowers bloom along the length of tall, arching spikes, which emerge from handsome clumps of swordlike foliage. If given well drained soil and divided every two to three years, this fountain-shaped plant will continue to pour spectacular color into your garden for a long, long time.

With blooms larger than most other Crocosmias, ‘Star of the East’ evokes images of an illuminated sky and boasts slightly nodding, 3-½ in. flowers, which are indeed star-shaped and brilliant. Well above green swordlike foliage, amidst burnt orange buds and clay-colored calyxes, each choice flat-faced bloom shines brightly with dusky orange on the outside, soft orange inside, and a cream-colored center.

Blooms August–September.

Size: 2-1/2'–3' high x 2' wide; hardy to zone 6.
