Digging Dog Nursery perennials

Geranium
‘Jolly Bee’
at Digging Dog

Geranium

Cranesbill

We’re talking about hardy Geraniums, not the better-known, anything-but-subtle Pelargoniums. True Geraniums are sturdy yet refined, with five-petaled flowers borne on dainty stems close to the palmately-divided leaves.

Their spectrum of colors, from cool to electric, is rivaled only by their ability to create soft mounds and flowing carpets of lush foliage in ordinary garden soil. We plant a succession of varieties to always have some in bloom from spring to fall. Our selections are easily grown and will rebloom after flowering if lightly trimmed. Most die back in winter.

Geranium ‘Jolly Bee’ full sun  partial shade

Paying homage to the honeybees buzzing about his Dutch nursery, Marco van Noort selected this remarkable wallichianum hybrid for its gorgeous white-eyed, blue cupped blossoms and robust mounding habit. Maroon veining, dark anthers and nearly 2 in. diameters distinguish the long lasting floral pomp. More upright and airier than ‘Rozanne’, ‘Jolly Bee’ also boasts resilient, good-looking divided leaves tolerant of sun and long hot summers. (pp#12148)

Blooms June–October.

Size: 2' high x 3'–4' wide; hardy to zone 4.
