Wood Vamp

Decumaria

Decumaria barbara partial shade

Counting members of the Hydrangea family among its kin, this sweetly fragrant, southeastern U.S. native can mature either into a high-climbing woody vine or a rambling ground cover. Ascending by self-clinging, aerial roots, the glossy dark green leaves—semievergreen, smooth, and oval-shaped—set the stage for 4 in. domed clusters of creamy white blooms. Differing from Hydrangea anomala or Schizophragma because of the solely fertile flowers it bears, Wood Vamp should be positioned by a sunny threshold where you can easily relish its delectable scent.

Large Band.

Blooms June–July.

Size: 25'–30' high x 0" wide; hardy to zone 7.
