Italian Woodbine

Lonicera

Lonicera etrusca full sun  partial shade

The loosely interlacing branches twine and sprawl to weave an imposing shrublike vine whose paired, semievergreen leaves are covered in a downy softness. The bases of the uppermost medium green foliage completely envelope the stems while shoot tips support a spectacular showing of cream-colored narrow tubes warmed by red accents.

The sweetly fragrant whorled sprays deepen to yellow and later debut ebullient red berries. Easily enhancing a wall or pillar with alluring beauty and scent, this vigorous Mediterranean native naturally tolerates heat better than most Honeysuckles, doesn’t like soil that’s too wet, and needs periodic thinning to encourage a profusion of bloom. Medium Band.

Blooms June–July.

Size: 10'–18' high x 0" & spreading; hardy to zone 8.
