Styrax japonicus ‘Emerald Pagoda’ full sun

Touted as one of his greatest introductions, ‘Emerald Pagoda’ was retrieved from the Korean island of Sohuksan by the late J. C. Raulston himself.

Choice and undemanding, it exhibits exceptional vigor and boasts significantly larger flowers and foliage than the species. Twinkling a galaxy of bell-shaped and starry, one in. wide blooms with yellow stamens, the pendant, lightly fragrant clusters look exquisite when viewed from below. Dark green leathery leaves transmute glowing yellow fall colors as they grace this small deciduous tree, which develops a distinctive, upright pyramidal to oval form, obliging heavy clay soils, while flourishing in moist, well drained, slightly acidic sites.

Blooms May–June.

Size: 10'–20' high x 24'–30' wide; hardy to zone 7.
