Origanum acutidens at Digging Dog
Oregano
The Greeks called this ancient herb oros ganos, meaning “joy of the mountain,” and legend has it that Aphrodite created the sweet, spicy scent of its leaves as a symbol of happiness. A sun-loving genus hailing from the Mediterranean, Origanums display small, tubular, whorled flowers often arranged in showy overlapping bracts, and prefer well drained soil. Origanum acutidens
With small tubular pink flowers peeking out from stunning, pendant pagodas of large and nearly luminous oval-shaped lime-green bracts, this Turkish cliff dweller is highly ornamental. Deliciously aromatic and used for an herbal tea in its homeland, the rounded pale green leaves embrace thin, arching stems in pairs. Create an arresting small-scale vignette by planting long blooming Origanum acutidens amid Thymus ‘Pink Chintz’s fine textured carpet.
Blooms August–September. Size: 8"–12" high x 12" wide; hardy to zone 6. Origanum acutidens (p-1276) SOLD OUT!
