Blue Indian Grass
Endemic to Missouri’s prairies, glades and open forests, this aristocratic, warm season selection unleashes slim, steely blue-green blades that sculpt a distinctive vertical, yet somewhat open foundation. Perched on staunch, straight flowering stems well above the dramatic foliage, a feathery array of copper-colored panicles, embellished with decorative yellow pollen sacs, delight birds, garden designers and florists alike, while projecting cozy, light chestnut hues for winter interest. ‘Indian Steel’s low maintenance, clump-forming habit beams sunny yellow autumn foliage, plus adapts to heavy clay, shallow rocky soil and dry conditions once established, but dislikes rich sites.
