Persicaria
Knotweed
Poor Persicaria! Certain weedy, invasive members of the genus have given the rest a bad name, and discouraged gardeners from getting to know these versatile performers. Our garden-worthy selections are happiest in semishade with ample moisture.
Riveting maroon chevrons paint a lush, low and leafy mound of large, broad olive-green foliage. Relished by pollinators, the countless minute pinkish red flowers alight tall wiry spikes that render an ethereal haze-like effect. Whether ensconced as an undemanding specimen or planted en masse, valiant ‘Lance Corporal’ eludes most pests, enjoys adequately moist, average garden soil and can be added to shade-dappled borders, cottage gardens, naturalized woodland peripheries and containers, while mingling with sidekicks like chocolate-colored Actaea, Ligularia or Rodgersia.
Blooms August–mid-October
Size: 18" – 2' 0" high x 12" – 15" wide.
Hardy to zone 5.
